When you want to improve your home for simple comfort, first consider the elements that must be dealt with first.

For example:

  • Drafty,  inefficient or large windows
  • Cold or hot spots throughout the house
  • Cold floors
  • Inadequate water flow
  • Water leakage
  • Mould.

Not addressing these basics could make any newly-renovated space still uncomfortable.

Once you’ve done that, almost anything you do to improve your home translates as more comfort.

Some are more interesting than others ‒ for instance:

Bathroom. Think warm benches, space, storage, showerheads, curbless showers, glass enclosures, heated towel racks, beautiful fixtures, flattering lighting, natural light, and spacious counters ‒ a truly spa-like experience.

Kitchen. Imagine wide islands with seating; soft and practical lighting; amazing storage; magnificent appliances; beautiful flooring; majestic windows; fabulous fixtures, stylish hardware; perhaps texture or lovely and unexpected pops of colour.

Living room/family room. Think of this as your comfy place all year round, but especially in colder months. It might have a magnificent fireplace, ample space for a reading nook or two, maybe a table area for snacks or board games; a relaxed conversation area for entertaining guests, and easy access to the kitchen.

Backyard. This can be the ultimate comfort and luxury, an ordinary backyard turned into a garden oasis, a sanctuary, a peaceful place for meditation or its opposite: entertaining guests. Depending on size and scope, it can be anything from a quiet spot with a soothing fountain to a state-of-the-art swimming pool, change house, gazebo, outdoor sauna, hot tub and lounging patio.
