Lagois is looking for a Construction Estimator, we are looking for an individual who is:

Under the direction of the Project Development Manager (PDM), and reporting to the Project Development Manager, the Estimator/Controller will be responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects, including materials and labour, quantity take-offs and specifications.   • Able to read and understand construction plans (working drawings)

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Prepare full cost estimates on conceptual design and project development phases of client projects.
  • Prepare accurate materials, labour and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out construction projects according to proposals, plans, estimates and specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain database of suppliers, trade partners and consultants
  • Prepare (write) detailed and accurate scopes of work for all trade partner involved in Lagois projects
  • Advise on proposal procedures and follow;
  • Study and analyze all proposals (quotes) received and confirm accuracy of trade partner estimates to Lagois specifications and scopes of work
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, unknowns, escalation and contingency and present to the Project Development Manager (PDM)
  • Present estimates and conduct regular review meetings with Project Development Manager (PDM)
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff scope of work
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers
  • Maintain accurate and up to date cost database for internal use
  • Recommend/reject proposals and negotiate contracts
  • Maintain job documentation system that is centralized, date sensitive and organized.
  • Coordinate and attend job showings (trade days) – includes reviewing plans, specs, job cost budgets, special project considerations with Project Development Manager, Production manager and designer(s)
  • Write tender packages for trades (and supplies if applicable)
  • Fill in estimate spreadsheet as appropriate, ready for PDM to review
  • Maintain meeting minutes
  • Create and store digital information database as required for each project
  • Assist with project scheduling, notifying trade contractors and scheduling material deliveries
  • Ensure all special items are ordered correctly and with sufficient lead time to meet production schedule
  • Maintain current all estimate spreadsheet cost databases, estimating and scope of work templates.
