Bright and early last Sunday morning (May 29th), 17 motorcycle enthusiasts with 3 riders ventured out of Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s east-end ReStore on Belfast Road and took part in the First Annual ReStore the Ride! The 200+ kilometre Poker Run Ride helped raise more than $1,300 for Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa and its two ReStores, a great success for its first year!
The poker run included three stops – the Cardinal Truck Stop, Woody’s Place in North Augusta and Rob Roy’s Pub & Restaurant in Smiths Falls. The Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa volunteers were ready at every stop before riders arrived to make sure that everyone received their poker cards. The Ride’s final stop was here at our Lagois Design Build Renovate studio in North Gower, where riders, along with volunteers, gathered for a delicious feast of pulled pork sandwiches cooked to perfection by chef Jeff Pinck, tasty fries donated by Chip Chop, beverages, prizes, and more.
One of our Lagois site supervisors, Tom Felts, had the lucky winning poker hand! His prize was an outdoor fire pit that will surely be put to good use this summer! The highlight of the day for one rider was when he spotted a group of 20 or so great blue herons nesting high up in a tree along the St. Lawrence River, a short distance from Cornwall.
