Looks like Old Man Winter is here to stay for awhile, so make sure your home is ready and safe with these tips:

  • Clear snow from below any skylights, chimneys, or known heat-loss areas on your roof down to the eave line, and clear any valleys where snow has drifted in to prevent ice dams forming on the edge of your rooftop – which can cause significant roof and structural damage. (Contact us if you need help – we can provide a contact).
  • Clean and disinfect your humidifier 2-3 times during the winter season to prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi which can be breathed in by your and your family.
  • Check, clean or replace furnace air filters every 30-60 days during the heating season (depending on factors such as pets in the home and the number of people living in the home) and have your furnace professionally inspected yearly.
  • Seal and insulate any drafty windows to ensure heat stays in and that your energy bills are kept low by caulking any visible cracks and covering your windows in a thin plastic film (that can be picked up at your local hardware store).
