When people talk about you

A name carries a lot of weight in a small town. It matters, especially if you’re in business.
Chloe and Brandyn Hewett, award-winning owners of Wireman Electrical, based in Kinburn (near Almonte), know this every bit as much as Lagois Design∙Build∙Renovate (based in North Gower).
It’s perhaps not surprising that the two companies work together on first-class renovations. Their value systems and pride of reputation are in sync.

“People know who we are,” says Chloe. “They see our truck. They see our trailer. They know where we live. People talk. If you do a great job, they talk about you. If you do a horrible job, they talk about you, too. So you want to make sure they’re talking about you for the right reasons.”
She adds she likes having their name on projects they’ve done with Lagois. “It makes us proud to say we were part of that job.”

Brandyn Hewett began his training and schooling when he was only 18. He spent years on large commercial projects but now most of his work is either residential or small commercial – a dental clinic, for example, that requires specialized electrical work.
He and Chloe have been married for 18 years and have spent much of those years renovating their own homes, perfecting their own skills of master electrician and interior design consultant.
And they’re busy. Projects take Brandyn and his apprentice, Alex, throughout Ottawa, mostly in the south and west end – and beyond, to places like Westport and Kemptville.
With a background in project coordination at a commercial electrical company, Chloe does almost all the administrative work and sometimes goes to sites as well.
And, as an interior designer, she adds yet another valuable element to their partnership. She loves working directly with customers when they want help selecting just the right kind of lighting for their renovation or new home.
She enjoys creating mood or idea boards with different lighting options so she can show a client why certain things might work or not work. Some people are looking for ambience in a dining area, for example. Some might want soft, indirect lighting. At times Chloe helps them to look at lighting as an art form.
“It’s fun,” she says. “I can help pick out fixtures for them or help them plan lighting or electrical layouts. Or I can help them improve their existing lighting.”

Brandyn, too, is sometimes asked for puzzling or creative solutions. One client asked him for a way to highlight some glasswork on a wall. The client wanted the art to be backlit but didn’t want it to have the lighting reflected on the glass. Brandyn created some special lighting channels for her, much to her delight.
Their versatility, personal approach and passion for quality are a big part of Wireman Electrical’s success. Their customers’ many reviews speak to this in glowing terms.
Brandyn and Chloe work with Lagois on several small and large scale projects. Recently they worked on the electrical for the Lagois office renovations.
They have their challenges, as do so many in the industry. Recent U.S. tariffs and supply chain issues started driving up costs of things like electrical panels to aluminum wire almost immediately. For large projects, they try to secure materials early to avoid any price hikes they can see in the future. And there are the endless thousands of electrical codes they must know – not only the existing ones but all upcoming changes.

They are the winners of the 2024 and 2025 Canadian Choice Award in the Electrician Category; they are also winners of the 2025 Ottawa Faces Award for Best Electrician as well as being nominated in two other categories. Most recently they won a special award for Best Quote Turnaround, presented at the Lagois Trades Breakfast at Manderley on the Green.
People laugh when they see Wireman Electrical’s slogan. It’s clearly more than a catchy phrase. It’s a philosophy and a promise.
“Good at Watt we do,” it says.
