They’re bright, they’re tough, and they can skate circles around hockey players.

The City of Ottawa Ringette Association (CORA) players are the stars of the ice this year, when they hope to play at the Canadian Ringette Championships, being hosted by CORA in Ottawa March 30 to April 5.
Lagois Design∙Build∙Renovate sponsors this AA team of girls in Grades 9 and 10. The team is part of a Quebec league, so it means many trips back and forth to Montreal and Quebec City.
Beth Champoux, mother of Lily, a team player, says she is “Assistant Coach Number Four”, which means she happy to help the team, on and off the ice. She was a ringette player “right up until I had my first child”, so she knows the game as well as anyone, and loves still being involved in the sport.

Lagois was introduced to CORA by Beth when Lagois did a main floor and basement renovation for the family. The renovation included a new flex-space suite, kitchen, and newly expanded and finished family room in the basement.
One of the first large gatherings the Champoux family had post-renovation was a sleepover for the ringette players – the entire team, all 15 athletes.
Beth says the players are such phenomenal skaters because, unlike hockey, in ringette you have to work as a team to move the ring up the ice (rather than skating with a puck from one end of the rink to the other).
Another factor is the time they spend on the ice. They practice twice a week, do power skating and play three games every 10 days or so. Beth adds the coaches are all-star former players who help them become superb ringette players and also “great athletes with mindfulness and resilience”.
She and the association are grateful for the support they get from Lagois.
