If you are a motorcycle enthusiast who wants to support a great cause, then mark your calendar because on Sunday, May 28th, 2017, the Second Annual Restore the Ride charity event is taking place in Ottawa!
We are pleased to be one of the sponsors of the Second Annual ReStore the Ride, a motorcycle poker run that supports the Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s ReStore. You will be riding your motorcycle along a 200+ km route that goes through Almonte, Balderson and Smiths Falls and ends in North Gower at our Lagois Design Build Renovate office in Ottawa. You can view the route here. At every stop, the Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa volunteers will give riders their poker cards and at the end of the charity event, the rider with the best hand wins a fantastic prize! After the ride, lunch and beverages will be served and there will be plenty of prizes, raffles and even live entertainment!
If you’re unfamiliar with this charity, Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 in Americus, Georgia, when Linda and Millard Fuller grew concerned about the increasing poverty housing in their area. The charity now operates in 100 countries and is also represented in every province and territory here in Canada. Our local chapter is the Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa (Habitat GO), which helps low-income, working families living in the National Capital Region build homes, ultimately breaking the cycle of poverty. The charity also has two Habitat GO ReStore locations, which accept donations of new and gently used items and salvageable building materials donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. These items can include furniture, building materials, appliances, sinks, cabinetry, countertops, household items and home décor items. The ReStore then sells those items at a reduced cost to the public and the proceeds help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership.
Lagois Design Build Renovate is committed to making sustainable choices to help the environment by keeping good items out of landfills. So far, we have contributed clients’ project items that are no longer needed to ReStore like kitchen cabinets, interior and exterior doors, washers and dryers, fridges, gas fireplaces, fencing and more. We are excited to collect and donate such items to ReStore on a continual basis. You can read about our past donations here.
To register for the Second Annual ReStore the Ride charity event, go to the Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa registration page. You can register online or print the registration form. The cost is $30 per person or you can choose to waive the registration fee if you commit to raising a minimum of $100.
If you have any items that you would like to donate to one of the two Ottawa ReStore locations or if you’d like more information click here. The locations are as follows:
- ReStore East: 768 Belfast Road
- ReStore West: 7 Enterprise Drive
We look forward to seeing you at the Second Annual ReStore the Ride! We know it will be a fun time and a great success like last year’s charity event.
