With your help, we’ve gone and done it again! The 9th Annual Lagois Design Build Renovate Charity Golf Tournament in Support of Manoir Ronald McDonald House Ottawa raised $11,314.97. Thank you to all of our golfers and sponsors – it sure feels good to be able to give a gift that will benefit so many families who rely on the the services of RMH while their children are receiving treatment at CHEO. Keep reading to learn more about our special connection with one such family, and their brave little golfer! A special thank you to the Scotiabank for matching the $1,290 raised by the Scotiabank Team at the tournament. Fantastic!
Our Special Guest with an Inspiring Story
We’ve told the story of our connection with cancer survivor Alex Tourangeau on our blog (read here if you missed it) and we’re pleased to be able to give an update starting with the happy news that he completed his chemo treatments before Christmas last year and rang the bell at CHEO. Alex not only graduated Grade 8 on the Honour Roll and received the Award of Merit, but he is busy giving back to the community and inspiring other families on their own journey as a Representative for the Sens Foundation and Camp Quality in Montreal, Ambassador for the Cornwall Nationals Hockey Team. Alex gained special recognition by the City of Cornwall as a survivor of childhood cancer and as an ambassador for raising awareness during the September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month campaign, receiving the key to the city.
Alex was an important guest at our tournament again this year, golfing alongside our industry partners and suppliers, and he even benefitted from the proceeds from the 50/50 draw won by his mother Cheryl – he’s the proud owner of a new set of golf clubs. Well played, Mom!
But perhaps the most valuable contribution that Alex and his family add to our annual event is by sharing his story. There was not a dry eye in the room when we learned the meaning behind each of his courage beads – each one symbolic of a procedure or important treatment milestone that he courageously endured. We are so proud to support Ronald McDonald House who helps & supports families like Alex’s. It’s really a privilege to personally share in such a success story.
